Course
Design: Our
courses are open to the public and are designed to prepare
new disaster volunteers and volunteer groups to
effectively serve in disaster relief activities.
Our disaster courses combine video, lecture, and
interactive multimedia to teach participants basic
disaster relief skills. All disaster
relief courses are free.
Class
Registration Policy:
1. Each class
must have a minimum of six (6) persons registered for that
class, if not the class will be cancelled.
2. Volunteer
Applications must be completed to become a Registered
Volunteer.
Call for an Application.
3. Before
taking classes Online or at the Chapter, each person must register
for the particular class in advance.

This course is designed to train Red Cross caseworkers how
to conduct effective client interviews and
provide appropriate assistance to help meet
a client's immediate disaster-caused or
disaster-aggravated needs.

Logistics: An Overview And Simulation

The purpose of this course is to provide basic information
about the processes of Material Support
Services activities and an opportunity to
practice the skills and knowledge needed to
run a successful logistical operation.

HAM
Radio Training
July 17 and 24, Saturdays
9am - 5pm both days
In times of crisis and natural disasters, amateur radio is
often used as a means of emergency
communication when
wireline, cell phones and other
conventional means of communications fail.
This training will provide you with basic
understanding of how to operate amateur
radio during a disaster or other such
incidents.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) Orientation
August 14, Saturday
9am - 12noon
This course provides basic information about the (DAT)
Disaster Action Team and outlines the role
the Disaster Action Team has during a
disaster.

Disaster Instructor Specialty Training (DIST)
August 20 and 21, Friday and Saturday
8:30am - 5pm
The purpose of this course is to prepare knowledgeable and
experienced Disaster Services workers to
teach basic-level disaster courses. This
learning experience consists of a series of
brief presentations and interactive
discussions focused on the instructional
techniques, course structure and delivery
methods required to meet the diverse
learning needs of participants attending
disaster courses.

Pre-requisite: Fundamentals of Instruction and
Facilitation (FIT); Completion of the basic
course that the candidate intends to teach;
and Operational knowledge and experience in
the subject.
Mass Care Overview
August 28, Saturday
9am-12pm
The purpose of this training is to provide an overview of
the activities performed by the Mass Care
group in support of a disaster relief
operation.

Shelter Operations
August 28, Saturday
1pm - 4pm
The purpose of this course is to prepare participants to
manage shelter operations effectively and
sensitively as a team while meeting the
needs of people displaced as a result of a
disaster.

Pre-requisite: Mass Care Overview.
CPR & FIRST AID
September 11, Saturday
9am - 3:30pm
Participants in this class learn to care for
adult victims who are suffering from
breathing and cardiac emergencies and /or
accidental injury or sudden illness. Course
includes instruction on universal
precautions and the Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) system.

Community Disaster Education (CDE)
September 25, Saturday
9am to 12pm
This class is designed to prepare you to deliver quality
CDE presentations by providing you
sufficient background information and
support.

SELF STUDY COURSES: Fundamentals
of Instruction and Facilitation
This self study course is designed to provide the necessary
foundation required of basic level Disaster
Services instructors.
Pre-requisite: Fulfilling Our Mission
SELF STUDY COURSES: CAS
3.2 Basics
This online course prepares Red Cross
caseworkers to use the Client Assistance
System (CAS) during a local disaster
response and on a disaster relief operation.
CAS is a reporting software database that
provides support to client assistance.
Pre-requisite: Introduction to Disaster.
SELF STUDY COURSES: The
Incident Command System (ICS) Trainings
Go on to
http://www.training.fema.gov/IS/ and do
the online ICS trainings. These trainings
are very important for all Disaster
Volunteers. These trainings are based on a
standardized, on-scene, all-risk, incident
management concept. ICS is the result of
decades of lessons learned in the
organization and management of emergency
incidents.
Pre-requisite: varies from training to
training.
SELF STUDY COURSES:
Community Emergency Response (CERT) Training
Go on to

and register for the training. The CERT
Program educates people about disaster
preparedness for hazards that may impact
their area and trains them in basic disaster
response skills, such as fire safety, light
search and rescue, team organization, and
disaster medical operations.
Pre-requisite: None.

Cross Orientation and Introduction to
Disaster Services, go to

"Volunteer" under Help Now. This will
take you to both classes, which are
prerequisites for other training.
2. All disaster training is free.
3. All theses trainings will be held at chapter, except
the self study courses.
4. For our Lauderdale, Tipton and Fayette County
volunteers: We will be rolling out their
county calendar soon. Wait for our next
mail.
Special
Classes for Civic Groups, Church Groups, and Other Community
Agencies Who Desire To
Become Mass Care Shelter Teams: We will schedule a
special series of disaster classes for all agencies, groups and
churches who
desire to offer their medium - large facilities as a Mass Care
Shelters. For more information about offering your facility as a
Shelter or training your Church, Community
or Civic Group to become shelter workers, call the Jackson Area

Training Requirements:
We
offer disaster classes for businesses which need to
fulfill in-service training requirements.
