Purpose |
The Local Disaster Volunteer (LDV)
serves the Jackson Area Community mainly during local
disasters and catastrophic events. Volunteer activities
include mass care of disaster victims, and other disaster related activities.
Local Disaster Volunteers are also needed for everyday
behind the scenes tasks such us reception, administrative, disaster preparedness
assistant, data entry assistant, warehouse management and more.

Purpose |
The
Disaster Volunteer Coordinator assist the Disaster
Director with managing the Disaster Volunteer Program.
This position is responsible for managing disaster
volunteers, to help recruit and get new volunteers
trained. This persons is responsible for the overall
maintenance of disaster volunteer records, training records and DSHR assignments.

Disaster Staffing Service Associate |

Purpose |
The Staffing Service Associate assist the Disaster Director
with processing and scheduling Local Disaster Volunteers (LDVs) during
exercises and major disasters. These persons are responsible for the
overall maintenance of LDV records and initiating call-down procedures
when large groups of LDVs need to be called in and scheduled for
disaster service.

Community Disaster Education (CDE) Presenter

Purpose |
The Red Cross provides Community Disaster Education (CDE)
presentations to many different segments of the community which include
Churches, Schools, Civic Groups, Businesses, Neighborhood Groups, First
Responder Groups, Health Fairs and Information Fairs. As a CDE Presenter
you would provide public presentations to interested community groups
and attend health or information fairs to educate the public on a wide
variety of Disaster Preparedness Topics. |

Purpose |
Be a caring presence to neighbors in need. Provide 24-hour
emergency response to Disasters Victims, particularly home
fires, ensuring that those affected have basic necessities such as food,
shelter and clothing. Volunteers drive to the scene in a Red Cross
or personal vehicle supplied with a variety of relief equipment and resources. At
the scene they assess the situation
and initiate the appropriate Red Cross assistance.

Have a telephone at home and/or mobile phone

Have a valid driver’s license

Willing to respond in all types of weather

Good verbal and written communication skills, able to
document forms properly

Must be willing to be on-call one week per month and available during
evenings, all night and week-ends.

Must be willing to respond quickly to calls from
Red Cross Answering Service, Fire Dept, Police Dept and Emergency
Management Officials.

classes are required for each function of disaster response,
are offered at no cost, and are ongoing throughout the year.

On-Call for 1 week per month:
On-call period begins on Friday at
4:30pm and last until the following Friday at 4:30pm.
On-call for 16 hours each evening -
from 4:30pm until 8:30am the next morning - during week days.
On-call for 24 hours all day and
night on Saturdays and Sundays.

Purpose |
Be part of the team that helps build the Jackson Area Chapter’s capacity
to respond to disaster. As a Disaster Preparedness Service Associate,
you will assist with disaster response, planning and exercises, keep
supplies and inventory stocked, and organizational agreements up to
date. Being prepared is essential to lessen the impact disasters have on
our families, our neighborhoods, our community.

Disaster Damage Assessment Service Associate |

Purpose |
Immediately after
disasters happen, go out in vehicles into the field and assessed the
damage in affected communities by counting the number of homes destroyed
and families affected. Collecting this information assists the Red Cross
to determine the scope of the disaster and how we will respond to meet
the emergency need of the affected communities. Work
is carried out in at our building, or sometimes on the scene of a disaster.
